On Wed., April 23, 2025 at 7:30 pm. Aardvark Jazz Orchestra performed the Duke Ellington Birthday Bash concert. The event included classics and rarities by Duke Ellington and Mark Harvey.
As part of the Walker Series, the free concert showcased Ellington’s works, such as Caravan, by Duke and Juan Tizol, Come Sunday, and I’m Beginning to See the Light featuring Aardvark vocalist Grace Hughes.
The concert featured classics and rarities by Duke Ellington and his circle, including The Mooche, Caravan by Juan Tizol, Blues to Be There from the Ellington/Strayhorn Newport Jazz Festival Suite, Chinoiserie from The Afro-Eurasian Eclipse Suite, and It’s Freedom, from the Second Sacred Concert. Aardvark also performed a beautiful piece by Duke’s son, Mercer Ellington, called Blue Serge. Aardvark vocalist Grace Hughes took center stage in I’m Beginning to See the Light, Tell Me It’s the Truth, and Come Sunday.
