Save the Date: “Celebrating America250” 54th Season Opener

Mandorla Music Presents:
Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, Celebrating America250

Aardvark celebrates the 250th anniversary of our country’s founding, with music from the Revolutionary era to the present day. The concert opens with Chester (1770) by Boston composer William Billings, evoking the beginnings of our democracy.  The America250 theme continues with wide-ranging original works by Mark Harvey; for example, The Journey (commemorating the struggle for desegregation in Boston schools from the 1850s to the 1970s and beyond); Passione (evoking the story of Sacco-Vanzetti and immigrants in America); and No Walls (Aardvark’s anthem of inclusivity, plus the premiere of a new work..  Finally, to mark the centennials of both John Coltrane and Miles Davis, the band performs the rarely-heard Miles Mode, Coltrane’s tribute to Davis.

Celebrating American democracy through the power of jazz.
